Accessibility Information
Bali has never been a very accessible holiday destination. Many natural wonders and traditional sites are generally difficult to access, even for travellers without disabilities. There are many staircases to reach the temples because of their setting within or above valleys, and in general the concept of “levels” are an integral aspect of the Hindu worship practices. The topography with its three majestic volcanoes and surrounding highlands has shaped everything, from where the villages are located, the irrigation systems, the roads. Wherever you are at a coastal area, if you make your way towards the center of the island, at some point the roads will lead upwards. Bali is therefore not without challenges, but its natural beauty and amazing culture can still be explored and discovered.
Nowadays, some of the temples and parks have provided accessible facilities for those with limited mobility and more and more places and venues are improving their infrastructure.
Where to stay in Bali?
Some areas are much more suitable for travellers with limited mobility. If we would need to choose, we would say Sanur is the best, also Nusa Dua is a good option. From here, you can take half-day and full day trips or visit some selected areas in other destinations and places, such as the Beachwalk Mall in Kuta, or other places that have a wheelchair friendly infrastructure.
Bali Airport (DPS)
Accessibility in Ngurah Rai International Airport
Of course, travel always starts with the airport. You can request special services and assistance by contacting your airline, they will then arrange wheelchair assistance for you.
