A Refreshing Lake Resort

Bedugul is home to Bali’s botanical gardens. Here, visitors can walk through the grounds, visit greenhouses, or stop for a picnic. The park is popular with locals on weekends with fun out-bound activities for families and friends. Restaurants and hotels are scattered nearby, so this can be a pleasant place to stay overnight. Beratan Lake is another popular attraction in Bedugul, on which the Ulundanu temple sits. The temple is very pretty and is a nice place to stop. Traditional boats can be hired for a short trip exploring the lake surroundings. Other two lakes Buyan and Tamblingan are also nearby. Hikers and bikers will enjoy the cool, mountainous Bedugul and continue their trips to hidden waterfalls. If you want to escape from the hustle and heat of Kuta and Canggu, having a staycation in Handara Golf Resort for a couple of days can be a great alternative for the next weekend.

Bedugul Brief

Food in this area is very basic, and a few buffet restaurants with a limited menu of Asian-Indonesian food like fried rice, fried chicken and stir-fry can be found nearby the lake. Most hotels have kitchens and will serve you meals. Some cafes serving hot Balinese coffee and snacks are popping-up in Baturiti street.

Bedugul is one of the most quiet places in Bali; people come here to relax. There are a few number of bars selling drinks to mainly locals with live music, but they also tend to finish earlier around 9-10 pm.

Getting to this area and around it is best done with a driver. The roads are steep, dangerous, and confusing, and there are no taxis or public transportation. Most of the tourists are coming using a car rental with driver on Friday and being picked up on Sunday. Some hotels and local group of taxis usually offer five to ten hours rental with driver for tourists who want to explore the area.

Most of the accommodation in Bedugul is in pleasant homestays, but the lakes situate a few stunning high-end villas and hotels. The price is higher than most places in Bali.

Ulun Danu Beratan is an iconic temple sitting by the Beratan Lake; it is a must-visit spot in Bedugul. The temple complex has a beautiful garden and multi-layers of tiers shrines dedicated to Gods and the goddess of the lake. Next to the temple, many locals offer fun activities like jetski and fishing equipments for the tourists. Further north, several waterfalls are hidden behind the green lushes of Central Bali jungle, such as Banyumala, Tirta Mampeh and Air Terjun Cinta.

The central Bali region, including Bedugul, is Bali’s agricultural centre and so produces very good fruits and vegetables. It is particularly famous for its strawberries, and visitors can take a trip to the plantations to pick their own. Excellent fruit is sold at low prices along the roadside, and it is worth stopping at the little stalls piled up with mangosteens, strawberries, jackfruits, and durians to try the local produce for yourself. There are also several tea and coffee plantations in the area where visitors can take tours. Hiking and several adventurous activities like Suspended bridges, Spider Nets, Tarzan Jumps, Flying-Fox, Flying Swings, and many more fun challenges also can be found in Bedugul.
