Surfing in Canggu
Home to some of the most loved breaks in Bali and a mekka for seasoned surfers and beginners with plenty of homestays and affordable accommodations, understanding surfers’s needs. Canggu features several surf schools and also surf retreats, where you can sign up for all kinds of surf courses and adventures, often combined with some form of yoga and awesome community living.
The “Canggu Coast”, is divided into the beaches: Berawa, Nelayan, Batu Bolong, Echo, Pererenan. The waves are usually bigger than in Kuta and Legian and are facing more south. If you are an early riser and show up before 9am you will most likely catch the best waves. The ground is mixed, some patches have sand, but mostly you will find reef underneath.
Best season is arguably (April) May to September (October). Also water quality will be best. During the winter months (November to March) the water quality drops significantly since winds and currents push lots of trash to the shore. Yet, you can surf Canggu almost all year round. It can get quite busy, particularly at “Sandbar” and Rivermouth. The waves are shared between foreign enthusiasts and local wave lovers alike.
